SikaShield P24 S IN 3 mm is a premium APP (Atactic Polypropylene) modified bituminous waterproofing membrane engineered for durable and effective waterproofing in roofing and below-ground applications. Featuring a robust 3 mm thickness and reinforced with a strong non-woven polyester fabric, this membrane is surfaced with protective sand to ensure excellent bonding to overlays like concrete screeds or gravel. Its specially formulated composition offers flexibility down to -2°C, allowing excellent crack bridging and accommodating thermal and structural movements without compromising integrity.

An easy-to-install product, SikaShield P24 S IN contains a polyethylene film backing with a burn-off release strip on the underside for torch-on application, avoiding the need for messy adhesives or chemical primers. The membrane is designed for use in multiple applications, including balconies, terraces, flat/sloping roofs, car park decks, bridge decks, subways, and various below-ground structures. It withstands severe environmental exposure, is resistant to ageing, abrasion, and chemical attack common in soils and groundwater, and requires appropriate protective covering when subject to direct UV exposure.

Application Methodology

  • Substrate Preparation: Ensure surfaces are smooth, clean, and free of loose materials, oil, dust, or laitance. Concrete substrates should have at least 1.5 MPa tensile pull-off strength after 28 days curing.

  • Priming: Select and apply the appropriate Sika primer (e.g., SikaShield Primer S30 or W30) based on the substrate, allow to dry thoroughly before membrane application.

  • Membrane Application:

    • Unroll membrane at ambient temperatures above 5°C; warming the membrane may be necessary in colder conditions.

    • Lay membrane avoiding folds or wrinkles; overlaps should be staggered and adequately extended as per specifications.

    • Torch-apply membrane by heating the burn-off film until the adhesive softens; press firmly for full bonding and use roller for air release.

    • Overlaps must be carefully done, using appropriate heating to ensure melt flow and seam integrity.

  • Detailing: Use sharp tools to cut and shape around penetrations, corners, and joints; apply recommended detailing products for full system integrity.

  • Maintenance: Inspect periodically, keeping the surface clean from vegetation or debris that could impair drainage or cause ponding.
